Polperro is a picturesque 13th century fishing village, situated on the south east coast of Cornwall. It has a rich and intriguing history, and was infamous for smuggling in the 18th century.
In more recent times, Polperro has been voted the coolest place to live in the UK, and also one of the most peaceful. Discover for yourself what has been inspiring local artists to immortalise the village and its surroundings on canvas for hundreds of years.
Once you’ve explored Polperro’s charming maze of streets and shops that showcase local arts and crafts, and sampled the variety of independent family-friendly pubs and cafes, it’s time to see the village and the surrounding coastline as it should be seen – from the sea!
Relax and enjoy a half hour cruise along the rugged Cornish coastline, with a chance to see dolphins, seals, jelly fish and a variety of local sea birds including cormorants, guillemots and oyster catchers.
You’ll see one of the oldest 13th Century buildings in the village, nestling on the cliffs above the harbour, and further out the exit to the flood relief tunnel which has saved the village from flooding on many occasions. You’ll also catch sight of the infamous smugglers’ caves and coves.
Weather permitting, these trips start in late March and run through to early January, daily from 10am – 4pm. Dogs and happy babies go free. Prices TBC (2024 rates).
We offer a return trip to Looe, or a one-way service – a favourite for hikers who want to walk one way along the National Trust coast path from Looe to Polperro, and opt for a more relaxing experience on the way back!
The trip takes 40 minutes and you will enjoy the wonderful scenery of the coastline as we cross the Bay of Talland and then sail past Looe (St. Georges) Island with the chance to see a variety of wild sea birds and sea life.
These trips are tide dependent so best to check with our reps on the quay beforehand.
An afternoon excursion to the famous port of Fowey, where Daphne Du Maurier wrote many of her famous novels, including Rebecca.
The boat leaves Polperro at 12:30 – weather permitting – and will cruise along the shore past the smuggling coves of Lansallos and the golden beaches of Lantic Bay.
There will be the opportunity to see a variety of sea life and birds along the rugged coast and clear waters, including (if you’re lucky!) dolphins and seals.
An hour later we will arrive in Fowey and you will have 2 hours ashore, in which time you can discover the eclectic mix of independent shops and boutiques, and sample some of Fowey’s famous restaurants, pubs and eateries for some fantastic Cornish fare. The boat will then leave Fowey at 3:30 and cruise back to Polperro. A truly great way to spend your afternoon.
Two hour mackerel fishing trips are run throughout the year. These trips are ideal for families, or anyone who wants to test their fishing skills, and are suitable for all abilities from complete beginner upwards.
For the more experienced anglers half or full day fishing trips for conger, bass and other species (depending on the time of year) can be arranged. Please see the boards on the quay for more information, or Contact Us (link to form) for enquiries.
All gear provided and you get to keep your catch!
Head to the harbour to find Polperro Boat Trips and experience the beauty of the Cornish coast from the water. Onboard you will be able to see the hidden coves and inlets, and spot a variety of local sea life and sea birds, that cannot be seen while walking the coast path. See Polperro and the coast as smugglers did years ago, looking for caves and coves to smuggle their goods and cargo.
There are regular half hour trips to admire the coastline, trips to visit our neighbouring villages of Looe and Fowey, or if you fancy a go at fishing yourself, you and your family can enjoy a trip with all equipment provided and you’ll even get to keep your catch! So you are sure to find a way to enjoy Polperro and its neighbours from the excitement of the sea.
